When it comes to mobile hunting setups, every ounce matters, but so does comfort – especially during those marathon all-day sits. The new XOP Rubicon treestand promises to deliver both, and after extensive testing, it’s clear this stand deserves serious attention from the mobile hunting community.

Weighing in at 9.6 pounds, the Rubicon positions itself squarely between the Lone Wolf Assault and the Lone Wolf Custom Gear 1.0. What sets this stand apart, however, isn’t just its competitive weight, but its impressive attention to detail and included accessories – all at a price point that might make you do a double-take.

Platform and Construction

The Rubicon’s platform dimensions mirror those of both Lone Wolf offerings, (see photo above) providing ample room for all-day comfort. Where it distinguishes itself is in the details: cast-in grip texture across the platform surface provides secure footing without adding weight or complexity. The stand features five adjustment points with steel Versa buttons – and here’s where things get interesting. Unlike some competitors, these round buttons allow for smooth, consistent strap adjustment from either direction, a small but significant advantage when setting up in less-than-ideal conditions.

Comfort Where It Counts

The mesh seat is, quite simply, outstanding. The comfort level exceeds expectations, with smooth, silent adjustment capability that can be managed without fully lifting the seat – a thoughtful touch that mobile hunters will appreciate. XOP includes a cold-weather pad that easily attaches for additional comfort during those late-season sits. The seat can also convert to a load shelf, though like many hunters, I find this feature more novel than necessary.

Setup and Security

The engineering team at XOP clearly thought through the practical aspects of mobile hunting. The batwing bracket features smart chamfering that allows for smooth tree contact while protecting straps from wear. The platform-to-tree contact is exceptional, creating a rock-solid setup that remains silent even during weight shifts.

Value Proposition

At $229, the Rubicon includes features that some $600+ stands lack. The package includes not just the stand, but also a cold-weather seat cushion, a full-body safety harness, a lineman’s belt, and backpack straps. The quality of these accessories isn’t an afterthought – they’re legitimate, usable pieces of gear that add real value to the package.

Real-World Testing

Initial testing included multiple setups and extended sits, but the real trial will come during my upcoming three-state Midwest hunt, where the stand will see daily use for up to 13 hours at a time. While long-term durability remains to be proven, initial quality and performance indicators are extremely positive.

Final Thoughts

The XOP Rubicon represents something rare in the hunting industry: a product that genuinely challenges the premium market while maintaining a mid-range price point. While some might question how a $229 stand can compete with options costing nearly three times as much, the Rubicon makes a compelling case through thoughtful design and excellent execution.

For mobile hunters seeking a lightweight, comfortable stand that won’t break the bank, the Rubicon deserves serious consideration. It delivers premium features and performance at a price point that makes it accessible to a broader range of hunters.
